Main Ingredients:
6 pieces hilsa/ilish fish (cleaned); 4 green chilies; mustard oil for cooking.

Spices:
  • ½ tsp whole cumin
  • 2 tsp cumin powder/paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 3 red chilies
  • Salt to taste.
Steps:
  1. Marinate the fish with 1 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp salt, 2 tsp cumin powder/paste; 1 tsp chili powder and 2 tbsp mustard oil. Leave it for 15 minutes.
  2. Temper the mustard oil in a pan with ½ tsp whole cumin and 3 red dry chilies. [on medium heat].
  3. When the cumin seeds starts to splutter, add the fish pieces.
  4. Add some water along with the green chilies. Put a lid on it and allow it to cook on low flame for 15 minutes.
  5. Open the lid, adjust the taste of salt.
  6. Pour 1 tbsp mustard oil over it and turn off the heat.
  7. Serve hot with rice.
