Main Ingredients:
250gm Okra (lady’s finger) cut into pieces; 3 tsp poppy seed (khus khus); 4 green chillies (make a slit on each chilli); 1 tsp mustard oil.

Spices:
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp chilli powder (optional)
  • ¼ tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp kalonji (kalo jeera)
  • Salt to taste.


Steps:
  1. Make a paste of poppy seed (khus khus) along with two green chillies. Keep aside.
  2. Temper oil in a pan with kalonji (kalo jeera). When it starts to splutter, add okra and fry for 10 minutes in medium flame.
  3. Add salt, turmeric powder and chili powder. Mix well.
  4. Add the rest two green chilies. Fry for another 5 minutes.
  5. Now add the poppy seed paste along with ½ cup of warm water. Give it a good stir.
  6. Add another ½ cup of water and sprinkle the sugar.
  7. Put a lid on it and allow it to cook in low flame until the okra is done.
  8. Open the lis, add 1 tsp mustard oil and turn off the heat.
  9. Now it is ready to be served with rice or roti (chapati).
