Main ingredients:
4 pcs rohu/katla fish; 1 tsp mustard paste (For mustard powder: soak 2 tsp mustard powder with a pinch of salt and turmeric powder in lukewarm water for 10-15 minutes); 11/2 tbsp yogurt; 4 green chillies slitted; 1 small-sized tomato chopped; mustard oil for cooking.

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp chilli powder
  • Salt according to taste.


  1. Marinate the fish pieces with a pinch of salt and turmeric powder. Leave it for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Fry the fish till golden brown. Keep aside.
  3. Fry the chopped tomatoes.
  4. Take mustard paste and yogurt in a bowl and mix it well (For mustard powder: mix the yogurt with the soaked mustard powder and make a thick paste).
  5. In the same oil add the mixture.
  6. Add salt, turmeric powder and chilli powder along with green chillies. Let it be cooked for a few minutes.
  7. Now add the fried fish pieces and cover it. Let it be cooked in low flame for 3-4 minutes with the lid on.
  8. Add 1 tsp mustard oil and turn off the heat.
  9. Serve it with rice.
