Main ingredients:
200 gm bhindi (lady’s finger) cut into pieces; 2 potatoes cut into pieces (lengthwise); 1 small sized onion chopped; 1 small sized tomato cut into four pieces; 2 green chillies (slitted).

  • ½ tsp whole cumin
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt and sugar according to your taste.


  1. Temper the oil with whole cumin. When the cumin starts to splutter, add the potatoes and fry till golden brown.
  2. Add the chopped onion along with some salt and sugar. Fry until it becomes translucent and dark brown.
  3. Add the tomato pieces and fry until they become soft.
  4. Add salt, sugar, turmeric powder and stir it well.
  5. Add bhindi and fry for 4 minutes.
  6. Now add ½ cup of water along with 2 green chillies and cover it. Cook it in low flame until the vegetables are done.
  7. Open the lid, let the water dry up completely.
  8. Adjust salt and sugar.
  9. Turn off the heat and serve with plain rice or roti (chapati).
